George "Willard" Black was born on February 7, 1914 in Dodge County, Nebraska, the fourth of 14 children born to Maurice Franklin Black and Addie Belle Black nee Brown. When he was a teenager, his family moved to Reno, Leavenworth, Kansas.

When he was 31, he married Margaret Earleen Schenck, daughter of John E. Schenck and Elizabeth Nye Schenck nee Thompson, on February 25, 1945 in Leavenworth County, Kansas. After their marriage they moved to Haviland, Kiowa, Kansas, where he lived until Margaret's death in 1960.

When he was 47, he met and married Wanda Arlene Wainwright, daughter of Frederick Freeman Wainwright and Ellen E. "Ella" Wainwright nee Swain, on June 1, 1961. Willard and Wanda moved to Emmett, Idaho and then to 950 SE Edwards Dr, Dundee, Oregon.

Willard died on January 2, 2000 in Gresham, Multnomah, Oregon and was buried in the Friends Cemetery in Newberg, Yamhill, Oregon.
