Maurice Franklin Black was born on October 25th, 1881 in Walnut Township, Bureau County, Illinois, the fourth of eight children born to George Franklin Black and Laura Frances "Fanny" Black nee Remsburg.

Circa 1889, Maurice moved with his family to Dodge County, Nebraska, where he helped on the family farm. In 1908, at the age of 27, he married Addie Belle Brown, daughter of William Robert Brown and Jane Ann Brown nee Watson in Dodge County, Nebraska and began his family on his own farm.

MAURICE BLACK SR.

Tonganoxie -- Funeral services for Maurice Franklin Black Sr., 88, of Tonganoxie, who died today at his home, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Friends Church here with Rev. Willard Black and the Rev. Ray Fitch in charge. Burial will be in Hubbel Hill Cemetery here.

Survivors include the widow, Addie; six daughters, Mrs. Beulah hall, McLouth; Mrs. Alta Wright, 1207 W. Fifth, Lawrence, Mrs. Gladys Zimmerli and Mrs. Doris Gilliland, both of Linwood, Mrs. Ruth Hunter and Mrs. Opal Kerns, both of Tonganoxie; six sons, Floyd, of Denver, Colo., the Rev. Willard Black, Emmett, Idaho, Merle of Staten Island, N.Y., Wayne and William, both of Tonganoxie, Maurice Jr., of Linwood, and Dale, of Kansas City, Kan.; a sister, Mrs. Eidth Keller, Schuyler, Neb.; a brother, Clarence of Kasbeer, Ill.; 29 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Born Oct. 25 at Princeton, Ill., Mr. Black was a retired farmer who lived in Tonganoxie for 40 years. Friends may call at Quisenberry Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Thursday.
