BARSTOW - Two New Mexico women were killded in a one-car rollover near Daggett yesterday morning, the California Highway Patrol Reported.
Killed when their car flipped over an embankment were Sadie Nejar, 53 Raton, and Emily O. Rumold, 58, Santa Fe, N.M. Both were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Deputy Coroner Walt Terry.
The accident occurred on Interstate 40 when the car drifted over the berm and down the embankment about one mile east of the Barstow-Daggett Airport Road.
Apparent driver of the vehicle was Ms. Rumold, according to the CHP. Cause of the accident is still to be determined, pending an autopsy. CHP sources said the driver could have fallen asleep or may have been the victim of a heart attack.
