Esther Hake was the daughter of John Frederick Hake and Ann Mary Hewitt Hake. Her paternal grandparents were Christian Hake Sr. and Barbara Hake.

Esther married Daniel Pound on 6 April 1854 in Mahoning County. Daniel was born on 2 June 1825, in Pennsylvania and died on 7 July 1887. Daniel's father was born in Germany and his mother in Holland.

In 1870 Esther and Daniel were living in Ransom. Daniel was a farmer. Living in the household was Charles Sands, who was born in about 1857, in England. Charles was the adopted son of Daniel and Esther Hake Pound.

In 1880, Esther and Daniel were living in Ransom, Michigan. Living with them was their adopted daughter Jennie Eidenier. In 1900, Esther is widowed and living in Ransom, with her sister, Hannah Hake who was born in May of 1842. Hannah is also widowed. The 1900 Federal Census records indicates that neither Hannah nor Esther had children.
