Graveside services for Donald LeRoy "Bud" Alying, 74, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Iola Cemetery.
Mr. Alying died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 21, 1934, in Iola, the son of Thomas Elbert and Annie L. Muntzert Alying. He graduated from Iola High School in 1952.
Mr. Alying served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the war, he attended Iola Junior College and then Kansas University for three years.
He worked for Pet Milk, L&M Truck Stop, Allen County Hospital and Menegay's North in Iola, before moving to Lawrence in 1978. He worked as a custodian at Lawrence High School for 19 1/2 years before retiring.
He married Mary I. Butts on Dec. 18, 1982. They shared 23 years of marriage. She preceded him in death in 2006.
Survivors include three daughters, Michelle Alying, Iola, and Cathy L. Ball and Teresa L. Freeman-Mirtz, both of Lawrence; a son, Charles Freeman III, Eudora; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
