Helen Rae Leary
May 2, 1924 - June 16, 2009.
Helen was born May 2, 1924 in Fame, Oklahoma to Harrison and Myrtle Winton. She moved from Oklahoma to Arvin in 1946 where she and Joe Leary married on July 23, 1949.
Helen worked as a clerk and pharmacy assistant for Bear Mountain Drug Store and Lamont Drug Store for 26 years. In her younger years she also worked seasonally in the local sheds and as a beautician. She loved dogs, cats, hummingbirds and gardening.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers and sisters and by her husband of 52 years, Joe Leary who passed away March 19, 2001.
Mother will be dearly missed by her family; her two daughters, Ramona Reeves of Bakersfield and JoLayne Grossen of Georgetown, Texas; four grandchildren, Julie Silva of Merced, Greg Ramirez of Merced, Roland Joe Ramirez of Merced and Jeff Minyard of Bakersfield; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley and Brandon Silva, Alyssa and Alison Ramirez, Yelena and Carlo Ramirez and Justin and Marissa Minyard.
The family would to thank Helen's caregivers, Tina, Linda and Margarita of Heritage Assisted Living House and Chaplain Ken Cross of Optimal Hospice.
A graveside service will be held Friday, June 19, at 1pm in the Outdoor Chapel at South Kern Cemetery in Arvin for Helen Rae Leary, age 85, of Arvin who passed away June 16, 2009 in Bakersfield. Chaplain Ken Cross of Optimal Hospice will officiate the service and interment will follow. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 18 at Arvin Funeral Home from 2p to 8pm.
