Alma Liles, 88, of Checotah, was born July 22, 1919 to Harrison and Myrtle Williams Winton. She passed away April 19, 2008 in Muskogee, OK. She was born and spent her early years in Fame, Oklahoma before moving to the Onapa Community. She graduated from Onapa High School in 1938, and married Clarence Liles soon after graduation. After they married, Alma worked with Clarence on the farm and in his trucking company that hauled watermelons from Nixon, Texas. Clarence was tragically killed in a trucking accident in 1949. After his death she worked for many years as the supervising cook for the Onapa School lunch program. Later, she worked at the White Stag Sewing Factory in Checotah, before becoming a manager and cook for the Checotah School lunch program. She retired in 1982.

She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Checotah since 1964. She loved her church and playing basketball and keeping up with Checotah Wildcats.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, R. J. and Buddy Winton and sisters Dorthy Jean Winton and Florance Dalton. She is survived by her children, Carolyn and husband J. C. Camp of Checotah, Rufus and wife Janie Liles of Tahlequah; Her grandchildren, Heather Lester and husband Bryan of Checotah, Anthony Liles and wife LaNetta of Farmington, AR, and Jeremy Lilies and wife Cathy of Tahlequah; Her great-grandchildren, Wes Lester of Checotah, JaiCee Lester of Checotah, Dylan Liles of Farmington, AR. One Sister, Helen Leary of Arvin, CA, Two Sisters-in-law, Opal Liles of Oran, MO and Margaret Winton of Ventura, CA, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will greet friends 6-8 P.M. Monday, April 21, at Garrett Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Harmony Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Lamar Kindell officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with Jeremy Liles, Anthony Liles, Bryan Lester, Wes Lester, Bobby James and Neal James serving as casket bearers.
