Born at Alexander, Married in Batavia, Farmed in Darien all in Genesee County in the state of New York. After the close of the Cival War he along with his wife Maranda (Palmer), their four children and his widowed mother, Clarissa DeMunn (Goodwill-Tisdale), all migrated in 1866 to Boone County Illinois, settling on a farm 2 miles north of Capron in Leroy Township.

Older brother Horatio C DeMunn and half brother Elias Tisdale had already migrated there around 1846. It is also possible a few of the other Tisdale children from mother Clarissa's first marriage also settled in the Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin Region during the 1845-1866 time period.

According to one historical account, after arriving in Boone County, Silas moved his family to Estherville, Iowa for a 2 year period (probably around 1890 but exact date unknown) where he purchased and improved upon some land there and then returned to Boone County, IL.

It is recorded that the last two sons born to Silas and Maranda were born in Boone County Illinois where he and most of his clan remained the rest of their lives.

In his latter years Silas retired from farming and purchsed a home a few miles south of his farm in the Village of Capron where later he died in July of 1907.
