Velma Bowers
Velma Bowers, 46, a native of Brown County, died enroute to the Bartholomew County Hospital at about 10 a.m. Saturday, January 3.
She had suffered an apparent heart attack.
Mrs. Bowers, of Rt. 3, Columbus, was born July 4, 1929, the daughter of Arnold and Susan Carmichael Hatton.
She was married October 26, 1946, to John C. Bowers, who survives.
She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church.
Other survivors include two brothers, Arnold Hatton and Wessie Hatton, both of rural Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. William Alvey, Rt. 6, Columbus and Mrs. Joe Gill of Rt. 1, Freetown; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, at the Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home by the Reverend Robert Lay.
Burial was at Garland Brook Cemetery.
