WENATCHEE _ Herbert J. Newlove, 85, a 75-year resident of Cashmere, died Friday morning, Dec. 25, 1992, at Parkside Manor nursing home in Wenatchee.

He was born at Wilson Creek on Nov. 9, 1907, to William and Effie Mae (Briggs) Newlove. He attended school at Wilson Creek and, at age 9, moved to Cashmere where he graduated from high school.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army at San Pedro, Calif., in July of 1927. After two years, he returned to Cashmere. He married Dorothy Hanson on Nov. 9, 1931. She died in an automobile accident in 1946.

He married Lucille Vaughn at Dryden on Aug. 30, 1950, at Dryden. He worked for the Schmitten Lumber Co. for more than 42 years.

He was a member of the Cashmere Presbyterian Church, where he held positions of elder and deacon; and he was a member of the Chelan County Museum at Cashmere.

Survivors include his wife, in Wenatchee; three daughters, Anita Weedman of Tacoma, Deanna Kerr of Seattle, and Barbara Rogers of Soap Lake; a sister, Doris Haskins of Seattle; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
