Bertha Irene Griesinger, 89, of Yakima, died Wednesday afternoon at Crescent Convalescent Center.

She was born Jan. 28, 1897, in Maple Ridge, Mich., to William Augustus and Effir May (Briggs) Newlove. She was raised and educated in Wilson Creek and attended Cheney College.

She taught school for three years in a one-room school house containing sixth through eighth grades.

On April 11, 1920, she married Dr. Edward Griesinger, a veterinarian. The couple lived in Wilbur for several years before moving to Grandview where Dr. Griesinger practiced until 1937. They then moved to Yakima where Dr. Griesinger practiced veterinary medicine until his death in 1965.

Mrs. Griesinger was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, I.O.O.F. Lodge, Rock and Mineral Club, Yakima Women's Club, Annona Club, Kitchen Painters, Syringa Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Grandview, and a 50-year member and past president of the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Victor Stanley Griesinger of Bellevue; two daughters, Norma Marie Hoffman of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Virginia Joyce Stuckrath of Yakima; a sister, Doris Marie Haskins of Bellingham; two brothers, John Melvin Newlove of Santa Monica, Calif., and Herbert James Newlove of Cashmere; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Alice Joule of Bellingham.
