He was born March 28, 1928 in Webster City, Iowa to Bernard and Elizabeth Williams Mills. He was the sixth of 11 children.
Jack married Cleda Barnum in 1949. They had one daughter, Debra Ann (Tim) Keefe, of Brockron, MA. They later divorced. He married Gayle LeFevre in 1954. They had four children, Rex Allen (Mary) Mills, Hawthorne, NV; Loretta Kay (David) Nielson, Fruit Heights; Rodney Jack (Sharon) Mills, West Point; and Janet Leigh Pickart, Washington Terrace. They were later divorced. Aleta preceded him in death in January of 2008.
He enlisted with the U.S. Navy Reserves and proudly served for over 30 years, retiring in 1985, after which he enjoyed spending as much time as he could outside with his horses, especially Smokey. He was a founding member of the Lahontan Trailriders Club. Jack enjoyed endurance horse racing and riding with his sons where he achieved ninth place in the nation.
Jack is survived by his children, 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters.
He was preceded in death by his wife, great-grandson Justin, his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
The family would like to thank all those who cared so lovingly for Jack over the last year.
Services in celebration of Jack's life will be held Monday, June 15 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
The family will visit with friends at the mortuary on Monday that evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
Cremation under the direction of Lindquist's Crematory.
