He donated a piece of his land to build a shared Mennonite, German Reform Church with a graveyard behind. He served in the Lancaster Co Militia under Capts Joseph Gehr, Andrew Ream, and Col. John Huber with his sons Christian and John. His DAR patriot number is A039619. On Sept 7, 1793, Joseph retired from farming and conveyed his 243.5 acre property in Cocalico to son Joseph and his 216 acres of land in Peters Twp, Franklin Co to son John. He must have gone to spend his final days with John in Franklin County.
