Christian Flickinger was born about 1762 to Joseph and Ehster Flickinger near Cocalico, Lancaster Co, PA. He enlisted with the Lancaster Co. Militia in 1778 and served under Captains Joseph Gehr and Andrew Ream through the Revolutionary War to 1783. Christian and Anne "Nancy" Buschler were married on April 21, 1783 in Cocalico Twp, Lancaster Co, PA by the Mennonite Rev John Waldschmidt, probably in the meetinghouse adjoining his father's property. His first son Jacob, born 1784, is probably named after his father-in-law, Jacob Buschler, and Jacob Gehr, friend and fellow soldier. In 1800, "Christopher" Flickinger appears in the Crawford Co, PA census. On April 25, 1804 Christian buys 100 acres in Conneaut Twp, Crawford, PA from a land company and on October 17, 1804, he buys 125 acres of adjacent land from Jacob Gehr and his wife Catharina, part of a parcel purchased by Jacob on July 19, 1802. In 1810, Christian "Fleckener" appears in the "Conniott" Twp, Crawford Co, PA census, and his son Jacob "Fleckenner" in Rockdale Twp. The multiple spellings of the name are not unusual for the census. In November 1810, son Jesse is born while Christian and Anne are in Lancaster visiting his parents. (Joseph dies in 1812.) On September 20, 1814, Christian and his wife sell their land to Samuel Potter and relocate to Columbiana Co, Ohio, taking all their younger children. Christian purchases a section of land: Range 1, Twp 9, Sec 15 in Springfield Twp, Columbiana Co, Ohio, which he subsequently subdivides and sells off portions. He dies June 4, 1828, with a will dated December 18, 1820, leaving 1/3 of his estate to his wife, monetary bequests to his sons, daughter and granddaughter. Executors are Christian Jr and David Summar. Anne dies in 1836 and her property is quit-claimed by the other siblings to son John. He died in Springfield Twp, Columbiana Co, but the county was split and the Springfield Cemetery is now in Mahoning Co. His stone was not there when I went, but they may have found it or replaced it with the recent restoration work, and his son's stone (Christian Flickinger Jr) is there. Some Columbiana County records are now available on the county web site.
Christian served several tours of duty with the Lancaster County Militia during the Revolutionary War, some with his father Joseph Sr and brother John:
1778-1779 9th Batt Lancaster Co Militia, Pvt 2nd Class under Capt Joseph Gehr. Commander Col. J. Huber. PA Archives 5th ser vol VII.

His DAR Patriot # is A039615.

His military service made him eligible to obtain free land in Columbia County, Ohio, courtesy of the State of Ohio, which is the reason he moved there in 1814.
