Lawrence Journal World-Friday, Nov 7, 1952 "William J. Murphy, 78, a lifelong resident of Douglas County, died at his home in Big Springs Thursday night after a long illness. He was a retired farmer. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Rumsey Funeral home. Funeral services will be at 9:00 a.m. Monday at the Catholic church at Big Springs with the Rev. George Towle in charge. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery at Big Springs. Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs Matilda Murphy of the home; one son, George Murphy, of Topeka; two sisters, Mrs Winifred Bidinger and Mrs. Mary Lavin of Stull; two grandchildren, Mrs Frank Henley, Topeka, and Donald Murphy of the U.S. Naval Air Station at Olathe"
