Emelia "Millie" Whitely Haynes was the oldest of the 13 known children of John Whitely and Bathsheba Haynes. Emelis'a paternal grand-parents were William Whitely, Sr. and Susannah Tyler. Her maternal grandparents were Henry Haynes and Bathsheba Hampton. She was the wife of second cousin William Haynes, the son of John Barton Haynes and Rhoda A. Huff. They were probably married about 1826 in Grayson County, Kentucky where Millie lived.

Emelia and William were living with their son Samuel Jackson Haynes and his family in Ellis, Ohio County, Kentucky. Her husband William died there at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 27 days on July 28, 1888. Emilia Whitely Haynes died there six months later at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 28 day on January 9, 1889. They were buried in the Panther Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Herbert, Ohio County, Kentucky.
