William B. Owen was born in New York around 1801/2. He came to the Michigan Territory and was one of the early settlers at Belle Arbor. He met Jerusha Shaw at Belle Arbor. She was a well know educator in the area and the daughter of John and Tryphena (Bingham) Shaw and they were married July 1, 1838 by her brother Rev. Luther Shaw. They had no children of their own but took Salmon C. Hewitt, a nephew and son of Amos and Louisa Tryphina (Shaw) Hewitt into their home after his mother's death. After William's death Jerusha (Shaw) Owen remained in the same area. Nothing further has been found on her after 1880.
