John Shaw born June 5 1768 in Lebanon Crank Ct. His parent's names are unknown at this time. It is possible Mrs. Shaw was a Lydia Shaw and Mrs. Shaw is buried in the Congregational Church Cemetery at Rutland . John moved with his family to Lanesborough, MA where his older 16 years old brother Luther became a Revolutionary War soldier who ended up fighting the battles when Burgoyne brought his army down from Canada in the upper NY/Vermont area. After the Revolutionary war ended and before 1790, the family moved to VT. This family was involved in their church and in education. John was a member a few years in the Vermont Legislature representing Mendon , VT. Their oldest son Truman Shaw was a tanner and shoe maker and when they came to MI they started their business on the land near Webster Cemetery . Their daughter Rockeylena (Shaw) Kirkaldie is the only family member that did not come to MI. Their son Rev. Luther Shaw came to the territory as a missionary and was the first established minister at the Romeo Congregational Church in Romeo, MI as well a many other churches in the Mi area. He married Julia Chamberlin in Romeo, daughter of Capt Gad and Lydia ( Baldwin ) Chamberlin. Another son Rev. John Bliss Shaw ministered a short time in Romeo and in upper NY. A daughter Jerusha founded the first academy in Romeo, MI and married William B Owens of the area. Daughter Louisa Tryphena (Shaw) Hewitt moved from VT with her large family. She died early in MI leaving her large family to be raised by other family members. Son Calvin Augustus Shaw became a merchant in Almont , MI and eventually in Illinois . Sarah Shaw married Dr. Frederick K. Bailey, a fellow Vermonte in MI, and later lived in Illinois. John died June 1, 1843 in Belle Arbor, MI.
