William was the son of Peter & Sarah (Buckingham) Forbes. He was named after his grandfather William Forbes, 1750-1802.
William's father was from Currituck County, NC and his mother was from Greene County, PA.
William had 8 siblings all of whom were born on the family farm in Hopewell township of Marshall County, Illinois.
On 4 Feb 1873 in Varna, Marshall Co, IL he married Laura Mayes. The couple had three children:
1. George Wm Forbes, 1873 IL - 1944 KS, m 7 ch (also buried in this cemetery
2. Melissa Forbes, 1875 IL - 1876 IL
3. Eugene Denver Forbes, 1879 KS - 1968 TX, m 3 ch, no gdch
The couple left Illinois for Kansas by 1879. They lived in Harper, Greenwood and finally Montgomery counties where William was a Farmer and in Real Estate.
