============================================

We are called upon to chronicle the death of our dear mother, Mrs. Maria Blackwood, need McClelland. She was born in Green county (sic), Pa., on the 17th day of March 1925. When but twelve years old she moved to Athens county (sic), Ohio, with her parents, and resided there until quite recently when she moved to Topeka, Kansas. On the 19th day of November, 1893, at about 11 p.m. without a struggle or groan, she fell asleep in Jesus. In 1844 she was united in marriage to the late Isaac Blackwood. She was the mother of eleven children, eight of whom survive her. She became a member of the church in early life, and lived an exemplary Christian to the day of her death. After a few hours of suffering with that dreadful disease, asthma, a severe cold settling on her lungs, and her heart failing to act, she passed over the river and joined the happy ones in a better land. The remains were taken to Republic county (sic), Kansas, for interment, the funeral taking place at the residence of H.J. Blackwood, Rev. Chapman officiating, remarks being founded on Revelations 14th chapter, 13th verse, after which the Interment took place at the beautiful cemetery near Talmo, Kansas.

Though lonely our home, and vacant the place
That no one but mother could fill,
We turn again for her careworn face,
The missed one is missing still.

How oft we shall look in the twilight hour
To the lonely vacant bed,
Forgetting the while that mother of our
Is slumbering with the dead.

We know she has gone to a world more bright,
Where suffering never can be,
But my heart cries out in lifes desolate night,
She would rather in the old home nest be.

But reason reproves the bitter thought
Thus coursing through my brain,
She has gone where want and wish are not,
Our loss is our dear mother's gain.

There is no death, an angel form
Walks o'er this earth with silent tread,
He bears our best loved ones away
And then we call them dead.
