Funeral for John W. Ferguson, 87, of South Ferguson Road will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike, with the Rev. Tim Dillingham officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. until time of service Wednesday. Burial will be at Daugherty Cemetery in Columbus.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Bartholomew County.

Mr. Ferguson died at 12:10 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 1998, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was a retired state highway employee and farmer and a past member of Christian Church in Jonesville.

Born Jan. 20, 1911, in Columbus, he was the son of Francis "Frank" and Mattie Thompson Ferguson. On Oct. 27, 1935, he married Martha N. Kuhlman, who survives.

Other survivors include sons, John W. Ferguson Jr., Paul E., Donald R., Kenneth W. and Phillip D. Ferguson, all of Columbus, Thomas L. Ferguson of Seymour and James Ferguson of Scipio; daughters, Ruby Ritter, Martha Kreinop and Betty Hurley, all of Columbus, Marjorie Hawkins of Westport, Linda Swengel of Elizabethtown and Barbara Lequire of Grammer; sisters, Esther McKinney and Magdalene Kuhlman, both of Jonesville, and Mary Schrougham of Bellville, Fla.; 37 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, a sister and a daughter, Mary Black.
