John T. Owen, was the son of George Wade Owen and Lizzie Viola Gary Owen. His parents settled lastly in Post, Texas, Garza County after living in the Emhouse, Texas, Kress, Hale County, and Floydada areas. Reverend John Travis Owen came to Crockett while working in Chandler, Texas to write and deliver sermons at the Crockett Church of God, where he met Lena Pearle Johnson during the time he spent from 1939 to 1941. They married in 1942.


During their marriage they produced four sons: David Lynn, John Kenneth, Marion Eugene and James Gary.

The couple began their married life in Stockton, California where John Travis was stationed during World War II. After his discharge they lived in the Crockett area before moving to Stanton, Texas. Living in Stanton for several years they moved back to Crockett, Texas. He died from injuries received from an automobile accident.

There are errors on this record. The errors are as follows.

  • John Travis Owen did not have any half siblings, but his father George Wade Owen did have half siblings through a second union after his mother passed away. John Travis did have a brother named Eugene.
  • George Lee Owen and George Washington Owen are the same person. He was born in Hale County Texas December 12, 1928.
  • His mother's correct name is Lizzie Viola Gary, not Elizabeth "Lizzie" Viola.
