b.Granville Co NC, husband of Prudence MASONER.

The supposition has been presented that Thomas Marion Harp had a brother, James Marion Harp and they were the sons of William Anderson Harp and Sally Stanton. Other sources contend that the children of William Anderson Harp are conjecture based on census
The writer (T.Y.Harp of "My Kinfolk") was told many years ago by his father (Demarquis Ellis "Mark" Harp) that Thomas Marion was so named in honor of General Frances Marion of Revolutionary fame. That is a refutation of the document in the Marshall County, MS, Court that has the name Thomas Muckleroy Harp and in another, Thelma M. Harp. It, in both cases, means an error on the part of the copying clerks.

Thomas Marion Harp married Prudence Mason in Overton County, Tennessee, early in the year 1820. The exact date on some old papers found among the effects of Prudence Harp was destroyed by mice gaining access to them more than 30 years ago. (T.Y. wrote "My Kinfolk" in 1960). Thomas was 22 years old and Prudence was 18. Soon after their marriage they moved to Rhea County, TN, that part that became Meigs County, TN in 1836. It was on the Hiwassee River near Big Springs that nine of their fourteen children were born. They other children were born in Marshall County, MS, about 5 miles southeast of Pott's Camp, MS. They moved to Marshall County in 1838. Vital Statistics on file in Jackson, MS, says the cause of Thomas' death was "colds" and that he was ill for 17 days. The colds were undoubtably pneumonia.
