Eli was the son of Silas & Elizabeth (Whitney) Latham & he grew up on a family farm in Norwich Twp., Franklin Co., OH. Prior to 1894, Eli was married to Etta E. Brooks who had been married once before. The 1910 Federal Census shows Eli & Etta living on East Russell Street in Columbus, OH, with their only known child Leroy E. Latham (also buried at Wesley Chapel Cemetery). Eli then listed his occupation as "railroad conductor." By the time of the 1920 Census, the family had moved to Wilson Avenue in Columbus & Eli again listed his occupation as "railroad conductor."
