Roger Donovan Affeldt was born August 28, 1925 in Ida Township, Minnesota, the son of Walter and Francis (Anderson) Affeldt. He attended country school and then Central High School. Later he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps serving in Alaska. On November 3, 1948, Roger married Caroline Krueger.
Roger worked as a bricklayer since the early 1950s. He loved to design brick and stone fireplaces. Roger's hobbies included horseshoes, hunting, fishing and bowling. He was a long time member of the Alexandria Eagles. He was also a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
Roger died October 4, 2002 at his home at the age of 77. Roger is survived by his wife Caroline of Alexandria; sons: Donovan (Janine) Affeldt of Brooklyn Park; Brian Affeldt of Alexandria; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother: Marlin of Fargo, ND; sisters: DeLoyce Novak of Garfield; and Ardis Pantline of Cannon City, CO. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Delette Patrick, Nadine Jobe and Wanda Bratten; and step grandson, Matthew Krone.
A funeral service was held October 9, 2002 at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Astrup officiating. Military honors were accorded by teh American Legion Post 87.
Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary S. Miller, Dick Iverson, Bob Parkin, Jeff Thompson, Otis Kuehl and Dan Larson. Honorary pallbearers were Jamie Affeldt, Adam Affeldt, Chandra (Affeldt0 Russo, Christine Affeldt, Tristan Affeldt, Alexis Russo, Paige Russo, Keith Krone and Alyssa Krone.
