He was a member of Maple Avenue Baptist Church in Smackover, AR, but attended Hillvue Heights Church. He was also a faithful member of L. A. McCubbins-Keith Ward Class and a World War II Army Veteran. He was a supervisor at Lion Oil Company in El Dorado.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Hatcher Bolton; brother, Herman Bolton; and sisters, Willie Belle Everitt, Merble Fish, Erma Montgomery, Oeida Bethany, and Geneva Leggett.
He is survived by his sons, James D. Bolton, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Bearden, and H. Andy Bolton and wife, Trish of Bowling Green, KY; sisters, Idell Thompson, Hazel Howell and husband, Ernest, Bobbie Allen and husband, J. R. and Emma Lois Poe all of Taylor, AR; four grandchildren, Jason Bolton of Bentonville, Amy Bolton of Bernice, LA, Chris Hickman of Bearden, and Nathan Bolton of Bowling Green, KY; and one great-grandchild, Michael Bolton of Bentonville; longtime companion, Esther Hopkins of Bowling Green, KY; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Smackover Cemetery. The family received friends from 9-11 a.m. at Maple Avenue Baptist Church in Smackover. Proctor Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
