Carl Brattain was born July 26 1889 in Swayzee Indiana to parents Augustus Brattain and Allie lee Brattain nee Herron. Between 1903 and 1907 his family spent time in Kansas before heading back to Indiana, and finally making the trek to Washington, living at Colville, Chewelah and then finally Spokane. In Spokane Carl married Laura White in 1913. The marriage was either annulled or ended in divorce. He lived in Spokane until 1917 and moved to Idaho where his WW1 Registration shows him as a single male with no wife, no kids. Employed at Idaho Gold and Ruby Mining Company. He is described as Med Height and build, dark brown hair and grey eyes. He enlisted in 1917 as a plumber and fitter and was discharged in 1919 as Coppersmith 1st class, U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Hull England during the war where he met Phyllis Myers.They were married in 1919 in Seattle Washington. He resided in Seattle in the 1920s and 30s, and then settled in Snohomish County. Carl and Phyllis raised 6 kids; Phyllis A, George E, Carl James, Richard Hiram, William Myers, and Allie Lee.
