Iris Yvonne Burt was the first born child of Odis Clarence Burt and Ada Kate Fitzgerald Burt. Iris was born with a heart defect (blue baby) and only lived one day. Odis and Kate were employees of Laurel Cotton Mills and Iris was buried in the Cotton Mill Section (near the caretaker's buidling) of Hickory Grove Cemetery. No marker was erected at that time and through the years, her actual grave site became "lost". Years later Emma Lou Burt Price bought a lot and had a memorial marker erected for the sister she never knew.

Iris is buried in the Cotton Mill Section of Hickory Grove Cemetery in Laurel, Jones County, MS and has a marker there.
