McMinnville resident and Putnam County native William Burgess Allison, 77, died Jan. 7 at Raintree Manor after an extended illness.

The CEO of Tennessee Consolidated Coal Company and Subsidiaries and a member of the First United Methodist Church, he was a member of the Cherokee Area Boy Scout Council and received the Silver Beaver Award for outstanding work with youth.

The son of Virgil Croft and Anna May Copeland Allison, he is survived by his wife, Helen Garner Allison; daughter, Grier Allison Galligan of McMinnville; grandchildren and their spouses, Cassell and Chad Galligan Davis, Michael Trevor Galligan, Michael Devin and Christy Galligan, all of McMinnville; special friend, Campbell Boyd of McMinnville; stepdaughter, Pamela Allison of Chapel Hill, N.C.; step-grandchildren, Forest Thomas of Greenville, S.C., Kenneth Jones of Chattanooga and Annissa Dodick of Louisiana. He was preceded in death by brothers, V.C., John and Joe Allison.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at High's Chapel with Robert Case officiating. Burial will follow at Cookeville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at High's. Memorial donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America.

High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
