Robert joined the Army in 1943 and was a Chief Warrant Officer serving 27 years before retiring. He added his confirmation name, Gaylord, to distinguish himself from another serviceman with the same name and was from then on affectionately called RMG.
He was a Master Sgt. during the jungle fighting from Bougainville to Manila in the war in the Pacific. Robert never got over the malaria he got in the jungles.
He married Marian Borth and had two children Robert and Kathleen. He also adopted Marian's two children Gina and Theresa Borth and counted them as his own.
