Valentine Mode--my husband's paternal gg-grandfather--was born in Bavaria, Germany, in 1829, son of Peter Mode (1800-1860) - mother unknown. May have come into the US at the port of New Orleans on the "Francis Depau" on 24 October 1844;

Valentine married Katherine Schilche 5 July 1849 in Big Rock, Pulaski, Arkansas and had 7 children:
(1) George Peter Mode (1850-1942);
(2) Valentine Mode (1853-1891);
(3) Elizabeth Mode Bick (1858-1924);
(4) Catherine "Kate" Mode (1860-1931);
(5) Dennine "Dennie" Mode Singleton (1861-1923--my husband's g-grandmother);
(6) Peter Mode (1864-1960); &
(7) Anna Mary Mode Ehrengart (1867-1958).

Valentine enlisted as a Sergeant in Company "C", 49th Illinois Infantry no 1 November 1861, and was discharged on 21 November 1862 from wounds he obtained while guarding a train at Corinth, Mississippi.

Valentine died in 1870 at the age of 41 in Bridgeport (now Okawville), Illinois from those injuries obtained in the Civil War. We would love to communicate with descendants of this family.
