Dennine "Dennie" Mode -- my husband's g-grandmother -- was the 5th of 7 children born to Valentine Mode (1829-1870) and Katherine Schilche aka Schilger (1826-1900).

The following obituary was among the Singleton family papers. Unknown author -- probably appeared in Metro East Journal Newspaper, Belleville, Illinois, January, 1923.

"Mrs. Dennie Singleton was born Dec. 24, 1861 at Okawville, Illinois. She passed from this life into the next January 13, 1923 after a serious illness lasting only nine days.

"She was married Nov. 16, 1884 to Essick Singleton who died March 28, 1918. To them were born four children two of whom had already preceded their mother to the grave.

"For a number of years Mrs. Singleton had been an active Christian. At the time of death she held her membership in the Methodist Mission House of St. Louis. Her life had been one of constant Christian service. Wherever she might help, there was she to be found. The memory of her is blessed to the many who knew her.

"The mother, grandmother, sister is gone. No more will her physical form move about lending a helping hand; no more will her voice be heard by those to whom she was dear. Gone? No, only the earthly form. The memory of her still remains. From her home in heaven he calls, Arthur and Alfred with their wives and children; her sisters, Miss Catherine Mode, Chicago; Mrs. Anna Erngardt, Manitou, Col.; Mrs. Elizabeth Bick, St. Louis; Also her brothers, Peter Mode, Okawville, Ill.; and Geo. Mode, Pinckneyville, Ill.

"Death had no terrors for Mrs. Singleton. She was not anxious to leave her loved ones, yet she welcomed her meeting with the mother in heaven and the Master of us all."

My husband I would love to communicate with any descendants of this family.
