Augusta Wilhelmina Heriette (Voeltz) Lemkuhl was born February 28, 1898, the daughter of Ludwig and Mary (Jenning) Voeltz in Morgan, Minnesota. Gustie was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She grew to womanhood in Morgan where she also married Rudoloph L. Lehmkuhl on October 5, 1922. They lived for a year at Boyd and then moved to Osakis which was their home for six years, then moved to Alexandria and lived there for eleven years. Her husband died of a heart attack and Gustie did child care for people and was very good at her work. She was also very gifted in doing sewing, rug making, quilt making, embroidery and many other things. She and her sister, Hulda Lehmkuhl had lived all their lives together.
Gustie and Hulda made their home a place where other people could call home because people were always welcomed there. They raised many beautiful flowers which made their home beautiful inside and out. The Lehmkuhl sisters are loved by many.
in June 1983, Gustie and Hulda moved to the Bethel Manor Apartments and in January 1988 Gustie moved to the Knute Nelson Home. On July 6, 1990, Gustie passed away at the Knute Nelson Home at the age of 92 years.
She is survived by sisters: Mrs. Hulda Lehmkuhl of Alexandria; Mrs. Viola Draeger of Morgan; Mrs. Minnie Menk of Hillsboro, ND; brother: William Voeltz of Morgan; god-sons: Roy Merten of Coon Rapids; David Draeger of Redwood Falls; god-daughter: Anita Sanders of Fairfax.
Augusts was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, and four sisters.
Funeral services were July 9, 1990 at Zion Lutheran Church, Alexandria, with Rev. Stephen Bruening officiating. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Roy Merten, Otto Stinglhammer, Bill Amundson, Norman Sukke, David Draeger, and Ray Olson. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home.
