Cleta was born in Abbott, Texas, to the late Jim Robert and Ada (Kirkland) Bailey. She was a former, longtime resident of Waco, where she was a homemaker and also worked as a cashier at Hillcrest Hospital, retiring after seven years of service. In 1993, she moved to Orange, to be near her children and became a member of North Orange Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvy Lloyd Ashcraft.
She is survived by her son, Rev. Lynn Ashcraft, of Orange; granddaughter, Lynae Sanford and her husband, Dr. Jerry Sanford, of Orange; great-grandchildren, Dyllon Sanford and Rebecca Sanford, both of Orange; sister, Allene Lummus and husband, Don, of Waco; brother-in-law, J.B. Caldwell, of Mockesville, N.C.; three nieces; and two nephews.
