Bill's Food Mart Owner William H. Battin Dies
William H. Battin, 63, of 1729 Clover, owner of three Bill's Food Marts, died at 6 a.m. today at his home after a three-year illness.
He was the owner of food marts on 25th Street, on McKinley Avenue and one on Gladstone Avenue. He also had worked several years as manager of the former Bob-O-Link Restaurant and had worked for A and E Grocery in East Columbus and formerly owned a grocery store at Fourth and Jackson.
Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Dave Drury at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hathaway-Myers Funeral Chapel, where persons may call from 4 until 9 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Battin was born in Bartholomew County Oct. 29, 1918, the son of William Arnold and Hattie White Battin.
He was a member of North Salem United Methodist Church near Gnaw Bone.
Survivors include a son, William F. Battin of 2412 Ohio; two daughters, Bonnie Battin of 2440 Charleston and LyVonne Brown of Greensburg; a stepdaughter, Phyllis Roberts of Nashville; four sisters, Marjorie Jacobs of 4225 Washington, Betty Clark of 2560 Sycamore, Letha Castner of 2238 Chestnut and Doris Ping of Peach Tree City, Ga.; four brothers, Maurice Battin of 2235 Pennsylvania, Dallas Battin of Taylorsville, Robert Battin of Orland, Calif., and Howard Battin of Carson, Calif., two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.
