Detail of map of Noble Twp, Rush Co, IN, from the 1879 county atlas. See Nancy Patterson's 80 acres in Section 36 at the bottom of the image. Adjacent to her property on the west are the 240 acres owned by her former husband, Samuel Patterson, and the 80 acres owned by her son-in-law, George W. Brown. The property south of the Samuel Patterson and G. W. Brown properties was owned by J. R. Mercer (John Rainey Mercer), another of Samuel's and Nancy's sons-in-law.

Death certificate of Nancy Davis Patterson. Note the misspelling of Patterson as "Paterson." Also, with regard to her being listed as "Widowed," it is true that Samuel Patterson (1805-1892) predeceased her, but they had been divorced for many years, because he married his second wife, Elizabeth Brown, in 1866.
