Bert & Grace made their home in Soldier. He became engaged in the cement business. He built most of the sidewalks in Soldier and a great many bridges and culverts in Soldier Township and surrounding communities. His name and the date when they were built can still be found on some of them. He built caves and basements and did much of the cementwork around the new courthouse in Holton, built about 1920. He built the basement under the Methodist Church at Soldier about 1921. Bert & Grace raised four children, three boys, Russel, Glenn and Paul, and two girls, June and Ula.

To them were born five children, Russell, who died in infancy, Glenn and Paul of Holton, Kansas, June Reed, of Soldier, and Ula Ewing of Great Bend, Kansas; these with his wife and five grandchildren survive him, also two brothers, Roy of Emporia, and William of Junction City, Kansas, and one sister, Mrs Grace Patty of Los Angeles, California.
Mr. Anderson spent most of his life here and has exerted a fine influence by his high principles in business, home and community life. The following tribute is from a friend of many years. This community has suffered a great loss in the death of Bert Anderson, which occurred Sunday night, about 11 o'clock, at his home here. Big, kind, soft voiced Bert will be terribly missed in every way. He has been the head of "Anderson and Sons Construction Co." for many years, and for about nine years, the owner of the Soldier Hardware Store. The pay roll of his employees has helped greatly in the business of the town. But it is not in a business way only that he will be missed as he was a friend to all and his devotion to his family was deep and sincere. His plans for their welfare was his highest interest in life.
His health broke in the winter of 1943 when he suffered a severe heart attack from which he never completely recovered. This trouble and complications brought his useful life to a close after a long illness. His family have the deepest sympathy of the entire community. The funeral was held Wednesday a 2:00 o'clock at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, conducted by Rev. Walter Carson of the Soldier Christain Church. Burial in Soldier Cemetery.
