Mrs. Edward L. Askren, 68, a long-time resident of Manhattan died at St. Mary Hospital at 2:25 p.m. Born September 21, 1880 in Jackson County, she came to Manhattan in 1902. She was active in the Presbyterian church and in a number of women's organizations. Her home was 1005 Poyntz. She had been hospitalized since June 16. Mrs. Askren, whose maiden name was Nannie Elizabeth, leaves her widower, Dr. Edward L. Askren Sr., Manhattan optometrist; a son, Dr. Edward LeRoy Askren, Jr., Atlanta, Ga., a daughter, Mrs. Cynthia Askren Brown, Lake Charles, La., three grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Charles Chamerberlain, Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Courser Funeral Home.
