Carlton Reeser, 17, died August 31, 1928 at his home near Farmer City. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers, who were cousins, were Richard Reeser, Lloyd Swartz, J. C. Reeser, Wayne Kumler, Dale Reeser and Floyd King.

His death occurred after an accident the previous Wednesday when he and a friend, Edward Molerter, of New York City went to the creek swimming. Carlton dove in first and when he did not come up, Edward went in after him. He brought him out but all his efforts to revive him proved fruitless. A physician was called and all that a doctor's care could do would not save him. It is thought he misjudged the depth of the water which caused an injury to his spine when he struck the bottom.
He was born January 4, 1911 the s/o Mr. and Mrs. Walter Reeser. His entire life was spent in and around this city. If he had lived he would have been a junior in Moore Township High School this year. Besides his parents to mourn his death, he leaves four sisters and one brother: Cleo, Juanita, Mildred, Hilda and Jack, all at home.
