LAURA OGLINE-GALLAGHER, daughter of David and Catherine KISER-OGLINE. Her father was a Coal Miner working in the the Belmont Mine, Boswell, Somereset County, PA. She was the granddaughter of George Calvin and Mary Jane Metzler OGLINE also from Somerset County, PA. Her grand daddy (George Ogline) was a Civil War Veteran.

Laura had already given birth to a son with Francis in 1918. Francis Joseph Gallagher, s/o James & Susan Redmond GALLAGHER from Johnston married Laura Elizabeth OGLINE on 02/05/1919 in the Cambria County Courthouse.

Francis was employed and working for Bethlehem Steel Corporation. His dad was a short tempered mean man with a hot temper. A Trolly Car Conductor, Francis's dad was was a cruel mean man that mistreated his wife and all their children. Love was blind and since Laura loved Francis and liked her new mother-in-law (a loving caring spiritual women devoted to the teachings of the Catholic Church and her family), Laura had overlooked what was obvious "Like father, like son".

After the birth of their second child in 1920, Francis's behavior changed from being caring and loving to cruel with on-going daily verbal abuse. As time progressed his drinking increased as he complained Laura couldn't do anything right. By 1922 Laura had enough of the verbal abuse which had also escalalated into physical abuse.

Having enough, Laura filled out a petition to be filed with the court seeking divorce citing cruelty, physical abuse, and incompatibility. Dated February 1, 1923, the petition "LAURA ELIZABETH GALLAGHER versus. FRANCIS J. GALLAGHER" read:
On the 11th day of February 1919 she was lawfully joined in marriage with Francis J. Gallagher, and from that time until now has lived and cohabited with him as his wife and was owned and acknowledged by him, and so deemed and reputed by all their neighbors and acquaintances as such.

From the 8th day of January in the year of our lord one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three and prior thereto offered such indignities to the person of Litigant as to render her condition intolerable and life burdensome, and thereby forced her to withdraw from his house and family.

Defendant struck Litigant on the __ day of March in the year of 1921 with his fist and knocked out three of her teeth and otherwise injured her. On December 25, 1922 Defendant struck Litigant with his fist and caused her severe injury. On January 29, 1923 the Defendant forcibly took from Litigant her wedding ring and otherwise assaulted her.

Defendant at various times used profane language toward Litigant and in the presence of others and in many other ways humiliated he and refused for more than two years to appear in public with her and otherwise offered indignities and violence. Defendant kept this course of treatment up for several years.

The couple separated, Laura moved from Johnstown in Cambria County to Boswell in Somerset County. However, the 1930 Federal Census indicates the couple was again living together having 5 CHILDREN:
