At the young age of possibly 10 or 11 years old Matilda's mother Catherine KISER-OGLINE died from complications from child birth complications. Her father David OGLINE, a Berlin Borough coal miner, was unable in every way to care for the required needs of his three girls.
Hattie Ann Ogline was given up for adoption first, she was adopted by Jeramiah and Minerva BERKEY, they were good people. Matilda Mae was given up to foster care to Jacob & Amanada Baker, while Laura Elizabeth's needs were assumed by her aunt Savilla Witt (Her father David's married sister).
A few years later David Ogline would meet, court and move in with an Alice Shaffer. The couple would live together as Alice would become Laura Ogline's saragate mother until David died in 1915. Of the three sisters, Laura would marry first (James Gallagher) in 1919..
Tillie lived with the Baker family, Somerset farmers that had four (4) children. Having no choice nor any say about where she was placed or lived, Matilda would live many years in a life of servitude. When she became 16, Matilda moved out of the Baker's home to live with her aunt her Aunt Savilla.
She'd thereafter meet and fall in love with James Sipe, a good man. They'd marry and have a good life together which produced many children.
TILLIE's OBITUARY was published in the Connellsville Daily Courier Newspaper Friday, September 3, 1965.
