He was the son of Elisha Sellers and Mary Willets. Samuel married Sarah Stanaland on 31 July 1806 at Brunswick County, North Carolina. This date comes from Our Sellers Family (p.11-see photo posted) and from the Samuel Calvin Sellers Bible. However, Brunswick County and North Carolina marriage records cite a bond and marriage on December 19, 1806. Which is correct is not known.

His gravestone is clearly inscribed with the death day of the 12th. The 12th is also the death day used on the DAR application based on the Revolutionary War service of his father, Elisha Sellers. On the other hand, the Cornelius W. Sellers Family Bible cites Samuel's death day as the 11th, as does the source: Pike County, Alabama Newspapers 1855-1861.
