Per Diane Gravlee (contributor number 47083760) - Matthew is the son of Elisha Sellers and his first wife Sarah. He married Sara Jane Ward in 1803 in Brunswick County, North Carolina. He was an attorney and also served as judge for the Brunswick NC County Court numerous times. He immigrated to Pike County, Alabama between 1831 and 1838 and appears in this county on the 1840 census.

I am a descendant of Matthew Sellers of NC who married Sara Jane Ward Sellers of NC. There is a lot of discrepancy as to whether he was married previously. One of his children is William Calvin Sellers, b. 1791 in NC. This would have made Sarah to young to be his mother, however his findagrave tombstone states that he is the son of Matthew. There are also other siblings indicating that there may be a second marriage. Would it be possible to post a note on Matthew's FAG page indicating the possibility of an earlier spouse. The age difference between Matthew and Sarah Jane Ward is also and indication that this might be the case.
