He married the love of his life, Alice L Prevost Saturday 17 Mar 1945 in Flint to whom he had been married to for 63 1/2 years before his death. She was his guardian angel through his battle for life. He lived for his family and loved playing the marble game, going to the casino and his Friday night poker games with his family. He was a member of St Pius X Catholic Church, a member of UAW Local 599, a member of the 0342 American Legion and VFW Post 3087. He retired from General Motors Buick Motor Division after 43 1/2 years of service. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend.

Survivors included his wife, Alice; 2 sons, John & Christine Yager Jr, and Thomas & Nancy Yager; 2 daughters, Linda & Daniel Bearbower, and Diana & Stephen Burnison; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and baby Yager, to be born in May. A funeral Mass was celebrated at 1 pm Monday 08 Dec 2008 at St Pius X Catholic Church at G-3139 Hogarth Ave in Flint with Father Robert F Copeland officiating.
Burial was in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
