John was a physician.

John arrived in the United States from Switzerland on April 26, 1851. He sailed on the ship Northumberland which left from London, England and landed in New York City. He traveled with his parents, David and Magdalena, his brother, Christian, and sister, Rosina. The family settled first in Holmes County, Ohio, before John moved to northern Indiana, living in Elkhart, Allen, Lagrange and Wabash counties.

He served in the Civil War in Company D, 211th Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania in the rank of Private from September 3, 1864 until June 2, 1865.

John and Mary were married on June 3, 1866 in Liberty Center, Henry Co., Ohio.

John altered the spelling of his surname Jegerlehner to Yagerlehner. His descendants have also changed the spelling. Some variants are: Yagerlehner, Yagerlener, Yager-Lehner.
