Jesse Hatch is the son of Josephus Hatch and Martha Luella (Thomas) Hatch. He is a twin to Essie Hatch. He married Helen Frances Kamm, July 24, 1923.

Jesse started early in his life as a lath and plaster worker. He was doing lath and plaster work when he married Helen as early as 1930 and later became a Master Lather
His granddaughter related the following story.
"Grandpa Jesse Was a Master Lather. He did wet wall with a hand trowel. Many of the churches, and a cathedrals, in Pittsburgh have the ornate plaster ceilings done by him. He invented a special plumb bob with an adjusting head to handle arches and curved wall surfaces. He was called out of retirement by LDS Church to fix water damage to an oval room in the Wash DC Temple. As the crew head watched in amazement Jesse had measurement dilemmas solved, and plaster nails set in minutes which they couldn't solve in weeks. Uncle Orrin says they started to scratch their heads and ask ''How'd he do that?''

He built the Pittsburgh home, during the depression by hand, out of salvage from demolition sites. Even the basement was dug with a hand shovel. The Union Hall sent in a tribute after his death because he was so fair assigning work, and would not let people bar a man from working because of skin color.

Jesse also defended the little LDS Pittsburgh branch. When some college kids hung a missionary on a fence, and started throwing beer on the women, at a (ward) picnic, Jesse flattened the head bully with one punch."
