MEADE COUNTY MESSENGER OBITUARY - 1934
Three persons were killed in an automobile crash on the Payneville Road near Buddy Hardesty's house last Saturday afternoon about 5:45 o'clock. Robert Thomas Tobin, 20 years old, son of Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Tobin of Guston, was killed instantly. Robert Thomas was employed by the State Highway Department and was returning to his home at Guston from work. Mr. & Mrs. Allen were going to their home at Payneville. Mrs. Barney Allen, 30, died early Sunday morning at the SS. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, Louisville. Mr. Allen, 70, died Tuesday afternoon at the same hospital, where he and Mrs. Allen were taken soon after the accident. Mr. & Mrs. Allen were taken to Dr. A. A. Baxter's office at Brandenburg, where Dr. Baxter & Dr. Earl Blair gave first aid treatment before sending them to the hospital. Funeral services for Robert Thomas Tobin were held at the Guston Baptist Church Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Filkins, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. Z. T. Connaway, pastor of Phillips Memorial Church, Brandenburg. There was an unusually large crowd in attendance at the funeral. Not one half of the crowd was able to get in the church. Burial was in Capt. Anderson Cemetery, Brandenburg. He is survived by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. W. Tobin, of Guston, 3 brothers, J. D. Tobin, Irvington, William Tobin Jr. and Wathen Tobin, of Guston. Funeral services for Mrs. Allen were conducted by Rev. C. W. Bowles at Buck Grove Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in the Buck Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Allen is survived by her mother and 2 brothers, Claud Huff of Meade County, and George Huff, of Chicago. Barney Allen, 3rd victim of the automobile accident, that happened on the Payneville Road, Saturday night, Oct. 20th, died Tuesday, Oct. 23rd, at the Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, Louisville, where he was taken immediately after the accident in the ambulance by David Sturgeon. Every effort was made to save his life by doctors, nurses and family but to no avail. The remains were taken to his home near Payneville and the funeral conducted at St. Mary Magdaline Church Thursday morning with requiem high mass. A large crowd of relatives and friends gathered to pay their last tribute of respect and love to one who was held in high esteem in his community. Burial was in the Payneville Cemetery. He leaves 7 children, James Monroe, Warren, Luther, Stanford and Albert Allen, Mrs. Florence Brown and Mrs. Fred Hardesty, besides a number of other relatives and many friends to mourn their loss.

Barney Allen, 70 years old, died Tuesday afternoon at SS. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital here of a fractured skull and other injuries suffered late Saturday when an automobile he was driving collided near Payneville, Meade County, with a motor vehicle driven by Robert Tobin, 25, who was killed instantly. Mrs. Allen, 52, also injured in the accident, died at the hospital here Sunday. Dr. John M. Keaney, Coroner, held the skull fracture suffered in the crash was responsible for the aged man's death.
