Retired motel housekeeper
GREENVILLE-Mrs. Emma Cross Birr, 72, a retired motel housekeeper, died of heart failure Tuesday at Delta Medical Center.
Services are 1 p.m. today at Boone-Wells Funeral Home with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation is after 10 .m. today.
Mrs. Birr was a native of Doddsville, where she attended a Sunflower County public school. Widowed three times, she married to Alex Toten, Thomas Vaught and Carl Birr. She moved to Michigan from Mississippi in 1954, but returned in 1980 to live in Greenville. She was a member of the Detroit Gospel Assembly there and retired as a motel housekeeper before moving to Greenville.
Survivors include sons, Russell Toten of Warrington, Mich., and Thomas Vaught of Sterling heights, Mich.; daughters Wanda Garrett of Haysi, Va., and Pat Konja of Oak Park, Mich.; brothers LeRoy Cross, Linton Cross and Clinton Cross, all of Greenville and T.W. Cross of Eupora and W.P. Cross of Clarksdale; sisters, Eva Mae Munn of Greenwood and Ann Johnson of Greenville; and 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
