Ruth was born in Magna, Utah to Claude Pace Blackburn and Amy Isabell Elton Blackburn. She married Laurence Carlson (prison guard) who died 1953, they had three children.

She then moved to Newberry Springs for 14 years. She was a homemaker for 60 years and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Newberry Spring Branch.

She is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Peter Carlson, her son, Lawrence Carlson, grandson, Chad Debord, granddaughter, Michele Houseworth and step-daughter, Christine Gardner.

Survivors include her husband, Jack H. Strickler of Newberry Springs; sons, Dennis Carlson, Michael Carlson, Leonard Nielsen, and Jack S. Strickler; daughters, Jan and Brenda; sister, Joanne Childers, and brother, Gaylene Blackburn.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mead Mortuary Chapel, 36930 Irwin Road. Burial will be at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside.
