Walter W. Howell, 69, of Midland, passed away at 4:27 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.

He was born in Koleen on January 22, 1940, the son of Clyde O. & Etna (Homes) Howell.

He worked 20 years as an electrician out of the IBEW Union, and owned & operated Howell Auto Sales in Midland for 20 years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed horses and loved his little dog, Punky.

He is survived by his wife, whom he married 50 years ago on Feb. 17, 1959, Sally (Bowersock) Howell of Midland; two daughters, Tammy Howell (Greg) Griffith of Bicknell and Rebecca Dianne Howell of Cookeville, Tenn.; a sister, Avis Dyer Tohill of Vincennes; five grandchildren, Eric Griffith of Linton, Brad Griffith of Jasonville, Jessica Judd, Christopher and Terry Deschanp, all of Cookeville, Tenn.; and seven great-grandchildren, Bryce Shacklett, Cohen & Olivia Griffith, Elija, Lily, & Clayton Deschanp, and Aubrie Raines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Lonnie Wayne Howell, two brothers, Russell & Clyde Curtis Howell, and five sisters, Mildred White, Marjorie Allen, Kathleen West, Gladys Yoder, & Norma Duncan.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and after 11 a.m. Tuesday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home, Linton Chapel.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Reverend Russell Black officiating. Burial will follow at the Worthington Cemetery.
